2.) How do you use technology in your classroom or plan to use it?
3.) Cell phones in the classroom. Do you agree or disagree that this would be a helpful teaching tool?
4.) If you were able to equip your classroom with the latest technology, what 3 things would you most like to have available?
5.) In what ways can technology be used to stimulate learning? Give two examples.
Hey Sherrie-I love the video!
ReplyDelete*If technology is available, I do feel like it is an essential component to effective teaching.
*I have a QOMO Board in my room, so technology is used in my room daily. I am actually in the process of learning how to make tests online and incorporate them on my webpage for my students.
*I think cellphones would be great for high school students.
*I would love a QOMO board, mini-laptops for every student, or maybe IPODs.
*There are an endless number of educational websites that can aid in any subject area that the kids love to play and allowing the students an opportunity to create a document of some sort on their own is always popular.

Hey, Sherrie! Thanks for sharing the video with us. It was great!
ReplyDeleteI do feel that technology is essential in order to effectively teach today’s students. We are already competiting for their attention in order to learn. Especially when they go home, they would rather watch TV or play video games than do their homework. As was stated in the video, “If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em.” We cannot keep their attention if we teach the way that we were taught simply by using lectures or reading the books. Technology is such a wonderful teaching tool that we should embrace.
Currently, I present our reading lessons using a PowerPoint presentation shown using our laptops and video projectors. We also have Elmo Units that I use to complete work with students during whole group time. My students take their reading tests online, and will be starting the AR program soon.
I teach first grade, and I think that cell phones would do more harm than good with such young children. I know that many of them play with their parents phones, but I think that for the content that I am teaching and the students that I am teaching it to, cell phones would not be a good idea.
I would love to have a Mimio Board and enough laptops or even desktop computers for each of my students. I would also like to have wireless internet in my room. We are connected through DSL, thankfully, but the cords have to go through the tile ceiling and drop down in order to connect my laptop with my projector to the internet. The cords cause a distraction for the students.
There are countless web sites that provide students with ample practice through games or online activities that they would usually do with pencil and paper. There are also programs that allow students to practice reading, math, or other skills that they are learning.
I really enjoyed the video. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDelete1. With the increase in technology in the homes of students, technology is an essential way to grasp students. It taps into their interest and incorporates the materials why are trying to teach.
2. I currently use my SMART Board to teach reading lessons (interactive- students come to the board to answer questions and it used for literacy centers), take attendance (students move their name to the school house if they are present; if they are absent their name stays at the picture of the house). I also use it to teach math interactively.
3. I disagree with the cellphones in the classroom. I do not feel that it can be a useful tool in the classroom. Students will not only do the task the teacher has assigned. They will venture off.
4. I would love to have a webcam so that my students can skype with another class in a different country or state and play jeopardy on material both classes have learned or to learn about another place. I would also like to have a document camera so that I can project how to complete assignments. Lastly, an I-pad so that I can move away from my computer.
5. Technology can increase skills for all academic subjects and it also provides tutorial assistance.
